WELCOME GARDENING FRIENDS!


The location of most of our Monday meetings is at the First Presbyterian Church of La Grange, 

150 S. Ashland, La Grange, Illinois in the basement Fellowship Hall, unless otherwise noted.

(Please enter directly from the parking lot entrance into the basement area. )

Our Hospitality & Social Hour begins at 12:15 pm with coffee, savory & sweet treats. 

During this time members check in, sign up for upcoming events listed, and enjoy socializing.

Our Business Meeting begins at 1:00 pm, followed by a speaker or special program.

SEPTEMBER

September 14, 2023 - Community Service Project - 

Members will make Sports Ball floral centerpieces for Aging Care Connections fundraiser. 

Aging Care provides social services to senior citizens. Direction and materials will be provided by the club.


September 11 (masks are optional right now)      

12:30 p.m. MEMBER PLANT EXCHANGE!

As a member, if you'd like to participate please bring one perennial plant with it's name, color, light and growing information, taped to the container, along with the name of person donating.  We will do the exchange before our meeting begins.  Questions, ask our co-president Jan!

Social & Hospitality Hour:  12:15 p.m.     Enjoy catching up with garden club friends!

Meeting:  1:00 p.m. 

Program:  After our business meeting and committee updates for the coming season we will

proceed to a local garden for a tour with the owner.   


Sept. 15 – District II Presidents Forum meeting. 

10 a.m.-12 noon:  Naperville Municipal building.

October 2

Program: Donna Hirsch, Master Gardener from the U of I Cook South Extension will discuss 

"Putting Your Garden to Bed'.


October Community Service Projects:

-La Grange Post Office:  Members do a Fall garden cleanup.

-Windsor Place Retirement Center: Members arrange fall decorations in outdoor containers.  

October 24 - Member Workshop Decoupage Pumpkins

November 6

Social Hour:  12:15 p.m. Meeting:  1:00 p.m.

Program: Nina Koziol "American Garden Design 1830 to the Present' traces garden design

evolution in the Midwest.  Nine covers design trends, cottage gardens, Moon gardens,

heirloom gardens, and more.

 

November 28 - Member Workshop:  Decorated Grapevine Wreaths


LATE NOVEMBER COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS:  

-Post Office: Members decorate the containers with evergreens and holiday winter decorations

-Windsor Place Retirement & Historical Society at the Vial House: Members will add evergreens

 and holiday decorations to outdoor containers.

    DECEMBER

 Thursday, December 7

LGGC MEMBER CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON - Prior signup and payment required with our Social/Hospitality Chairperson Marge to be able to attend. Location: Ruth Lake Country Club.  Members only event.

 Luncheon Program:  Noel Luchinski, former owner of her own shop, will demonstrate making

holiday arrangements.  Arrangements will be raffled. 

 Note:  As part of our Community Service, members are asked to bring children's unwrapped, new toys 

and books for the La Grange Rotary Club's "Secret Santa" program. Financial Donations are also welcome.

Program:  Kent Taylor from the Climate Reality Project will speak about "Our Climate Crisis',

the science, observed evidence, how we got here and what we can do to minimize the effects

of global warming on our climate.

March 04 - Special Members Program run by Mary V. 

Members will be able to submit photos of containers, flower beds, or centerpieces that they have created.  Mary will put them together in a Power Point presentation and each submitter will have

a chance to describe their creation.

March 28 - Member Workshop: Spring Cabbage Floral Centerpiece


March 15 - District II Members Annual Meeting and Luncheon - Location TBD

APRIL, 2024

Ways & Means - CLUB FUNDRAISER 

Members & Friends Annual PLANT CATALOG orders and payments are due at this meeting.

All Members are expected to participate and help on our fundraiser by ordering plants themselves and asking friends & family.  Everyone also works to sort plants and fill orders (sorry, no internet orders).

 April 1  

Program: Liz Omura from Cantigny Park "Let's Get Fresh' - how to use herbs in cooking.

Presentation focuses on her top 10 herbs, how to grown them and use them in recipes.

 APRIL COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT:  

-Members clean up our garden at the La Grange Post Office.    

April 15 – Garden Clubs of IL. Annual Convention & Luncheon - Location TBA


 -----  Earth Day April 22  -----  Arbor Day April 26

 

CELEBRATING ARBOR DAY:  Our Club will celebrate by donating a tree planted by our Village Public Works at a local school with a short ceremony.

  MAY, 2024

 May 6 - Annual Meeting

Program: Marcy Lauteran-Raleigh, owner of Backyard Patch Herbs "Language of Flowers'.

How messages were sent during the Victorian days to exxpress feelings that couldn't

be expressed out loud.

 

Thursday, May  16  - CATALOG ANNUALS DELIVERED! Nursery suppliers deliver pre-ordered plants.

Members & friends are asked to pick up any plants they ordered at times and locations specified.

Club Members volunteer to help unload the truck & sort plant orders.

We enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch as a group. Questions can be directed to our club co-president, Jan.

 

 May Community Service Projects:

*Plant the La Grange Business District: Members, along with help from the La Grange Public Works Department, plant approximately 80 containers with summer plants  before Memorial Day. 

Working with the Village to help beautify our community is a joy!

*La Grange Post Office: Members plant the containers and continue summer maintenance for the garden.

*Windsor Place Retirement Home:  Members plants containers with summer plants.

   May 27 – Memorial Day

 EACH WEDNESDAY DURING THE SUMMER MEMBERS VOLUNTEER FOR OUR "FLOWER GUILD" 

TO MAKE SMALL FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR TWO LOCAL RETIREMENT AND NURSING HOMES. 

MEMBERS USE THIS AS A WAY TO KEEP IN TOUCH DURING THE SUMMER AND DISCUSS THEIR GARDENS!

 SUMMER - GARDEN CLUB MEMBERS TAKE A BREAK FROM OUR REGULAR MEETINGS TO TEND TO
