The location of all our meetings is at the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange,
150 S. Ashland, LaGrange in the basement Fellowship Hall, unless otherwise noted.
Please enter directly from the parking lot entrance into the basement area.

Our Hospitality & Social Hour begins at 12:15 pm with coffee, appetizers & sweet treats.
Our Business Meeting begins at 1:00 pm, followed by a special program & speaker.
                                                                          ***
We would love to have guests join us to see if they might be interested in membership.
Our members have a lot to offer and share in responsibilities to make us a success!

Program:   Business meeting will be followed by a carpool trip to Wolf Road Prairie for a viewing of the prairie and tour of the 1850 Franzosenbusch Prairie House with Rita McCabe and Lawrence Godson of the Save The Prairie Society.

                      This is a member & their guests only event.


September 13 - Community Service Project 
Members will make Sports Ball centerpieces for Aging Care Connections fundraiser. 
Aging Care provides social services to senior citizens. All direction and materials will be provided by the club and completed at Jan's at 10 am. 

Sept. 14 - GCI Conservation Conference - Mayslake Peabody Estate, Oak Brook, IL.
 
Sept. 21 – District II Presidents Forum meeting at Bloomingdale Country Club.

OCTOBER, 2018

MEMBERSHIP  DUES ARE PAYABLE THIS MONTH.

 

October 1 - Evening Social Hour:   6:15 p.m.

EVENING Meeting:                       7:00 p.m.

 Catch up with all your gardening friends or meet new ones!

We always welcome guests and new members. 

                            

 Program:  Charlene Bebulski, of Midwest Pond and Koi Society, will talk about building and maintaining ponds and water gardens.                
                                       
Civic Development:  We will perform a Fall cleanup of the LaGrange post office garden.

 Program: Camille Stauber, owner of Sustainable Places, a landscape architecture, planning and design firm in Chicago will talk about "Trees!"  Camille will tell us how to get our trees to perform better and their value in combatting climate change and flooding.  Camille is also an instructor for the GCI Landscape Design classes.

LGGC MEMBER CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON - Prior signup and payment required with our Social/Hospitality Chairperson Linda to be able to attend.   Members and their friends only event.
 
Luncheon Program:  Andrew Parravano, owner of Andrew's Garden in downtown Wheaton will demonstrate European style holiday arrangements.  His arrangements will be raffled to those in attendance.  

 Note:  As part of our Community Service, members and guests are asked to bring
children's unwrapped, new toys and books for Pillars Community Nurse and Health Association's
"Secret Santa" program. Financial Donations are also welcome.

Ways & Means - CLUB FUNDRAISER
 
Members & Friends Annual PLANT CATALOG orders and payments are due at this meeting.
All Members are expected to participate and help on our fundraiser by ordering plants themselves and asking friends & family.  (sorry, no internet orders)

 
April 1
Program: Cindy Crosby, author and prairie ecology instructor, guild and program director at the Morton Arboretum, will share her passion "The Prairie's Frequent Fliers - Dragonflies and Damselflies" and what they tell us about the health of our waters.
 
 CIVIC DEVELOPMENT:  Members clean up the Post Office flower beds.  
Date to be determined.
 
  Earth Day April 21 -----  Arbor Day April 26
 
 April 8 – Garden Clubs of IL. Annual Convention & Luncheon - location TBA
             
CELEBRATING ARBOR DAY:  Our Club donates a tree to a local community organization to celebrate Arbor Day.  Recently we donated a tree to St. Francis School.  The Village Forester and Club members participated in a tree planting ceremony with students.

May 6
Program: Kent Taylor, of The Climate Reality Project, will cover "Our Climate Crisis", 
an overview of the science behind and challenges inherent to our climate crisis with a 
common sense approach to mitigate the effects.  Ken worked with former VP Al Gore 
on "And Inconvenient Sequel" 

 
 
CATALOG ANNUALS DELIVERED!!
May  16  - Nursery suppliers deliver plant orders.
Members & friends are asked to pick up any plants they ordered at times and locations specified.
Club Members are asked to volunteer to help unload the truck & sort plant orders.
We enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch as a group. Questions can be directed to our club president, Jan.
 
 
May - Member Community Service Project -
Members, along with help from the LaGrange Public Works Department, plant the LaGrange Business
 district's summer plant containers during the week before Memorial Day. 
Working with the Village to help beautify our community is a joy!

We also plant containers at the Post Office and maintain a small garden that we planted, as well as
Brainard Avenue War Memorials, and Windsor Place Retirement Home.

FOR "FLOWER GUILD" TO MAKE SMALL FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS
FOR TWO LOCAL RETIREMENT AND NURSING HOMES. 
MEMBERS ALSO USE THIS AS A WAY TO KEEP IN TOUCH DURING 
THE SUMMER AND DISCUSS THEIR GARDENS!
